Meet the Movement Series Talk 1

This series brings you face-to-face with the people in our area who are leading the Natural & Clean wines movement. These are ‘Try & Buy – Stock your Cellar’ events, featuring curated flights by the Featured Guest and Arterra Winemaker Jason Murray. Our Guests will present their understanding of the Natural & Clean Wine movement. As many customers have asked – “what other wine should we try, but we don’t even know where to look”, we will bring the wine to you, in celebration and support of the other small wineries around the world that share our clean wine philosophy. The first Talk features Steven Plant.  Steven recently launched Plant Wines, based in Richmond, VA, and is utilizing a career’s worth of experience with Natural Wines after working with New York based importers. Plant Wines is a Natural and Clean Wines distributor, supplying restaurants and retails in Virginia and Washington, DC. This session will offer for tasting and for-sale curated flights from the Plant Wines portfolio, selected by Steven and Arterra Winemaker Jason Murray.

Tasting the Trail of Wine’s History

Experience the Evolution of Wine from Ancient to Contemporary. This session will taste wines that utilize either Traditional Techniques, and/or Indigenous Varietals, starting at the birthplace of wine, and following wines expansion across the globe. Wines include: Ancient Techniques from the Caucasus Mountains (Georgia); Indigenous Varietals from Anatolia (Turkey); Levant (Isreali/Palestinian) varietals that were the cradle of Wine during the Egyptian Dynasties; Retsina (Greece) as Wine Spread into the Mediterranean; Amphora wines & Indigenous varietals as wine spread though Europe (Spain, Italy, Austria). Gain an understanding of what the ancient wine lovers might have experienced. These curated wines are of exceptional quality and are for sale as a ‘Try & Buy – Stock your Cellar’ event.

This talk will focus on ‘Women & Wine’ in the Natural Wine Movement. Stacey Khoury-Diaz is the entrepreneur who Launched Washington DC’s first Natural Wine Bar – Dio Wine Bar. Stacey’s passion for Natural Wine is matched by her advocacy for Female Entrepreneurs. Stacey will curate the flights in this session to highlight Women in Natural Wine, pulling from the Plant Wines and Native Selections Portfolios.

Understanding Techniques & Characteristics in Natural Wines

Date: April 4, 2020

Time: 1:00PM-3:00PM

This session will develop your ability to recognize various aspects of wines as they originate from the Natural winemaking process, with a focus on pairs of wines that demonstrate a specific characteristic, and decisions by the winemaker, in natural wines. Gain insight into the choice to use or omit sulfite & why; identification of oak influence; characteristics that originate from Clay Amphora versus Concrete Tanks; the use of indigenous varietals as opposed to Commercially dominant international grapes; skin contact and extraction; and dialogue about what Arterra is exploring being in a New World region while exploring the relationship of ancient and minimalist techniques. CANDLELIGHT EVENING

Enjoy this extended hours winter experience. Arterra Wines will light up with candles and lanterns to create a cozy winter hide away. Enjoy our heart warming wines, food and live music to fit the relaxing atmosphere.
